These are hacks for the American Heritage Talking Dictionary 4.0 program. Patches marked 68K will update the 68K version only. The patch marked PPC will work on the PPC version. If you wish to patch a FAT version for use on both types of Macs, then use both of these patches on it.
Each patch will create a brand new copy of the program called “American Heritage Dictionary ◊” just to be safe. (You can keep patching each new copy and end up with one that has all of your own choices.)
AHTD (4.0) Dialog patches (68k and PPC versions)
Thes patches will patch the American Heritage Talking Dictionary 4.0 to remove the "No Multimedia" warning dialog put up by the program at startup whenever the original CD is not mounted. This is a bit obnoxious for anyone who just wants to use the program for quick definition lookup. I can’t believe they designed it this way. Choose the one that fits your version of the program, or use both on a FAT version.
AHTD (4.0) Palatino patch (68k and PPC)
This program will patch the American Heritage Talking Dictionary 4.0 so that the default font is Palatino instead of Helvetica. This is my own preference, (although the AHTD fonts for certain etymology diacriticals get messy with Palatino Italic.) If you are familiar with ResEdit, the default font name is contained in STR# resource ID 1000 of AHTD 4.0. Just enter a different font name. It helps to have all of the different bitmap versions of the font you choose installed in your system. They should have made this a user preference, even if it does make some of the etmology fonts a bit wanky.
AHTD (4.0) Geneva 10 Browse patches (or Geneva 9, 12, or Monaco 9) 68k Only
These patches will patch the Dictionary 4.0 so that the default font and size of the Closest Match and Browse windows is always Geneva 10 (9, or 12, or Monaco 9, depending on the patch you choose), regardless of the font or size setting of the main definition or thesauraus window.
The AHTD program sets this font size relative to that of the main window, and always much smaller, often to the point of illegibility.
